August marks a special moment for Monteci: it’s harvest time. As per tradition, the first grape to be picked is Pinot Grigio, one of the most representative varieties of our region and our production.
Early and night-time harvesting: the secret to freshness
We have chosen to begin the harvest in the second half of August, a crucial time to preserve the characteristics that make our Pinot Grigio so unique: freshness, acidity, and aromatic vibrancy.
The grapes are harvested during the night, when temperatures are lower and the clusters stay intact and cool. This approach reduces oxidative stress on the grapes and helps preserve the delicate aromas that define the final wine.
Pinot Grigio: elegance and versatility
Pinot Grigio is an international grape variety that has found an ideal home in northeastern Italy, particularly in the Veneto area. It features grayish-pink skins, from which its name derives, and produces wines of great finesse, marked by fruity, citrus, and floral notes.
In the glass, our Pinot Grigio delle Venezie stands out for its brilliant straw-yellow color, aromas of pear, green apple, and white flowers, and a fresh, harmonious palate—perfect to pair with light dishes or simply enjoyed as a late-summer aperitif.
A unique terroir between the Adige River and Monte Baldo
The Pinot Grigio grapes we are about to harvest come from our vineyards in Pescantina, along the banks of the Adige River, in the province of Verona. Here, the soil is made up of pebbles and siliceous-clayey debris, providing excellent drainage and healthy, balanced vine growth.
The microclimate plays a key role: the proximity to the river and the cool breezes descending from Monte Baldo contribute to strong temperature variations between day and night. This helps develop a rich aromatic profile in the grapes, giving the wine complexity and finesse.
With the beginning of the 2025 harvest, we once again celebrate the deep bond between grape variety, land, and the work done in the vineyard. Our Pinot Grigio is the result of careful choices, respect for nature, and a deep passion for quality. We look forward to sharing it with you, glass after glass.
