Territory
Our Land: From Valpolicella to Lugana

Monteci’s vineyards benefit from a perfect combination of climate and distinctive soils, resulting in exceptional quality vines. From the Pinot Grigio vineyards of Pescantina, to the native varieties of Valpolicella, and the moraine-rich soils of Lugana, each area produces wines that embody the complex aromas, balanced acidity, and aging potential of their respective terroirs.

Pescantina
Our vineyards are located along the banks of the Adige River in Pescantina, Verona. The area is characterized by a thin layer of soil composed of earthy material and siliceous-clay debris. Here, we cultivate varieties such as Pinot Grigio DOC delle Venezie and Merlot. The proximity to the Adige River provides a mild climate, refreshed by breezes from nearby Monte Baldo. The significant temperature variation between day and night, influenced by the river, results in wines with remarkably aromatic notes.

Valpolicella Classica – high hills
Valpolicella Classica is a historic wine region in Verona, including the towns of Sant’Ambrogio, San Pietro in Cariano, Fumane, Marano, and Negrar. The hilly terrain is predominantly limestone-based. Vineyards thrive on gentle slopes and terraced mid-slopes. On the high-altitude vineyards (500 meters above sea level) we cultivate the native Valpolicella grape varieties: Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. The soil composition and the altitude contribute to wines with firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a high polyphenol content, making them ideal for medium-to-long aging.

Valpolicella Classica – foothills
The lower valley of Valpolicella Classica, shaped by alluvial deposits and calcareous sediments from the Pre-Alps, features highly varied soils—ranging from clay-silt to loamy and skeletal soils. Monteci’s foothill vineyards sit on deep, well-structured, porous, and highly fertile soils. These conditions allow for high-yield grape production, resulting in wines with excellent sugar concentration and balanced acidity.

Lugana
The Lugana region, south of Lake Garda, extends from Desenzano and Lonato in the west to Peschiera and Pozzolengo in the east. The area is divided into flat and hilly zones. Monteci’s vineyards are located in the flatlands, characterized by moraine-origin, clay-rich, and mineral-rich soils. The unique chemical and physical properties of this soil enhance body and warmth in the wine, while maintaining vibrant acidity and savory complexity. The wines boast intense and distinctive aromas, with notes ranging from almond to citrus, delivering a truly expressive and unforgettable taste experience.
